Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture by Toby Hemenway is often referred to as the bible of permaculture, and is the ultimate, most extensive resource for a detailed overview of the many elements of permaculture.  Perfect for beginners, this book is filled with thorough explanations and diagrams, covering everything from the principles of permaculture to instructions on all the ways to get your hands dirty and turn your yard into a full blown sustainable, edible food forest.  Hemenway eloquently and persuasively articulates the beauty, practicality, and potential of permaculture and leaves the reader of a much better understanding of why permaculture makes sense and why understanding the complexity and interconnectedness of ecosystems is so important in agriculture.  I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in permaculture.
